Overview
The Spellmakers emerged from within the ranks of the Watchers during the long struggle against Broeden. While other Watchers focused on prayer, healing, and spiritual discipline, the Spellmakers pursued knowledge through experimentation, alchemy, glyphs, and the direct study of the forces shaping the world.
The Schism
As Broeden's war continued, divisions grew among the Watchers. Amphileph and other Spellmakers argued that understanding the natural and supernatural laws of creation was essential if mankind hoped to survive. Their ideas created a deep rift with more traditional Watchers and many of the Elders of Rion.
Jaros and the Hidden Tomes
The Monastery of Ardidhus became closely associated with Spellmaker research. Ancient writings, experiments, and records were preserved there under Jaros's care. These works later became known through fragments of the Well of Kings and the Moonledge Peak recensions.
Amphileph
The most famous of the Spellmakers was Amphileph. Once regarded as one of the most gifted of the Watchers, he sought methods powerful enough to defeat Broeden and eventually became central to one of the greatest crises in Erathian history.
Legacy
The Spellmakers remain among the most controversial groups in the history of Erathe. To some they were visionaries willing to risk everything to save mankind. To others they crossed dangerous boundaries that were never meant to be crossed.
