Overview
Mourner's Fault is named in the public record as the great chasm that opened in the Time of Mourning — a gaping rift of sheer cliffs, rising steam, and heat from below where lava meets the sea. Chronicles place Rion south of the Fault, hemmed by cliffs along the southern shore of Blue Water.
Born of the Binding
Public theology ties the Fault's opening to the Binding and the Great Departure, when Evliit and the Faithful Nine sealed Amphileph's rebellion in the east and the land itself cracked. Rion nearly fell into the sea. The Archives keep that origin as the geography of mourning.
Steam and Updraft
Travelers and scholars describe the Fault's voice — churn of lava far below, seawater exploding into steam, hot columns roaring upward through the maw. The Rion Guard's lore studies those updrafts as part of the nation's long watch across the impossible gap. Further records of any crossing remain sealed.
Among the Quarters
Maps of Etharath set the Fault between Rion and the Second Quarter lands to the north. Peoples trapped east since its creation are remembered in Rainland and Mireland chronicles. Further records of the Fault in later years remain sealed.
