Overview
The Lake of Aertos is the largest of the five Lakes of Aertos north of Rion. Public chronicles remember it as a wide blue water in a valley of lush grasses, with wind rippling meadow and shore alike — a landmark of the western approaches to the Black Mountains.
Among Five Lakes
Maps name the Lakes of Aertos as a chain in the west. Aertos itself is the chief of them: still enough to hold a moon's reflection, large enough to carry a flat-bottom ferry between shores. Fishing nets and small docks mark the ordinary life of the water.
Monastery Shore
On a small peninsula jutting into the lake stands the Monastery of Ardidhus — three towers joined by high walls, the eastern tower built into the foothills, the western tower over the water. A lawn slopes to a stone water-edge tower and ferry berth. The Archives keep the lake and the monastery as paired entries on this shore.
Later Years
Travelers still name Aertos among the great western waters. Further records of later years on these shores remain sealed.
