Overview
The Faceless Mountains are a towering wall of granite rising north of the Black Mountains. Their steep cliffs, snow-covered summits, and nearly inaccessible peaks have protected hidden communities, libraries, and Watcher sanctuaries for centuries.
Geography
Unlike the shale slopes of the Black Mountains, the Faceless Mountains are dominated by massive granite formations. The range is marked by sheer faces, narrow passes, deep valleys, and long winters that make travel difficult for much of the year.
Moonledge Peak
The most famous location within the range is Moonledge Peak, home to a vast underground complex containing libraries, archives, meeting halls, and chambers used by the Watchers. The mountain became one of the most important centers of learning in Erathe.
The Watchers' Refuge
For generations, Watchers, monks, scholars, and healers used the Faceless Mountains as a refuge from political turmoil and warfare. The natural strength of the peaks made them ideal for preserving knowledge and maintaining independence from outside powers.
Role in the Watchers' War
During the events of the Watchers' War, Mategaladh and Tophian brought Evliit to Moonledge Peak after his return from Harot. There he first learned the deeper history of Broeden, the Watchers, and the ancient prophecies surrounding the Sword Bearer.
The Great Library
Within the hidden halls of the mountains rests one of the largest collections of historical and scholarly records in Erathe. The library became a guardian of surviving Watcher traditions and later preserved fragments connected to the Well of Kings.
Legacy
The Faceless Mountains represent wisdom, preservation, and endurance. While kingdoms rise and fall across Erathe, the mountains remain a symbol of the knowledge that survives beyond any single age.
