Mireland

Second Quarter • East of the Wall • South of Ane Manall

A muddy bog born of the Rainland's downpours — clay no siege engine can cross.

Mireland

Overview

The Mireland is the bog country of the Second Quarter — a muddy expanse of clay and standing water east of the Wall. Public chronicles call it a land born of the Rainland's perpetual storms: rain that never stays in the Rainland alone, but sinks westward into sucking flats travelers name the mires.

Clay and Bog

Accounts describe soft ground, dark pools, skeletal trees, and reddish reeds pushing through the mud. The clay itself is the barrier. After Red Field and the raising of the Wall, the Stewards judged that no great siege engines could be dragged through the Mireland's clay — a judgment that shaped the fortresses watching its edge.

North of the Bog

Ane Manall stands just north of the Mireland — part outpost, part prison — raised so that any force seeking to go around the bog would meet its walls. Maps place the Mireland between the Wall and the Rainland, with the Northern Plains and Ane Manall holding the higher ground to the north.

Later Years

The Mireland remains a named barrier on maps of Etharath. Further records of journeys through the mires remain sealed.
