Overview
Fog's Break is Old Tom's tavern just outside Highwood — a timber house on a dirt-and-cobblestone path where tavern lights challenge the fading day. Public accounts place it at the edge of the great wood, a stop for travelers between Highwood and the wider First Quarter roads.
The Packrat Yard
Thomas Oleane, known as Old Tom, is something of a packrat. His property sprawls with objects of every shape and size, rescued from other people's rubbish and arranged in half-organized piles. He built much of the tavern from the sale of such forsaken things, and travelers know Fog's Break as the place to find the oddest item for the oddest job.
Draft and Welcome
Only his kegs of draft are more famous than his novelties. Brewed in the slow hours of trade, Old Tom's ale draws lovers of drink from Highwood and Candra alike. At sunset the porch fills; inside, low talk and the clatter of mugs mark a house that keeps ordinary welcome on western roads.
Later Years
Fog's Break remains named among Highwood's roadside places. Further records of private bargains struck there remain sealed.
